The leaves start to change color, the air grows cooler, the days grow shorter…it all means one thing. Summer is over and Fall is here. There are many great Fall Staycation Ideas to keep you and your family busy. Here are our Top Staycation Picks
1. Apple Picking
The most popular fall staycation idea is apple picking.. Most orchards usually open the 1stweekend after Labor Day (call ahead to find out about apple picking conditions and to make sure apples are available). Some farms also offer hay rides, making the excursion a real adventure for kids. Pack a picnic and you can make a day of it.
2. Pumpkin Patch
Get your Halloween pumpkins, go on a hayride, and even pet a goat. Consumer pumpkin patches are a booming business and offer a collection of fun family activities including corn mazes, tire swings and, of course, acres and acres of pumpkins to assure you get the perfect one.
Locate a pumpkin patch near you by doing an online search. Visit its website for hours, admission price and location, or call the operators for details. Be aware that some places charge a general admission while others have individual fees depending on the activity
3. Attend a Football Game
It doesn’t matter if its high school, college, pro…football season is here. And what’s not to love…the cheerleaders, the band, the mascots and most important, the GAME! You can check your favorite professional teams website by going to www.nfl.com . If the NFL is out of your price range or you can’t score tickets don’t worry. Host your own tailgate party in your driveway or backyard. Watch the Big Game from your house and play touch football during halftime.
Another option is College football. Tickets can be purchased online or through the school’s athletic office. Lastly, the easiest game to see is a High School game. High School games are a great option espceically if you have children since you can sit closer and easily leave if you have to.
4. Foliage Hike
Heading out into nature is a great way to soak up this colorful season and enjoy the outdoors before cold weather sets in. A walk in the woods, fields or even a city park, gives kids an opportunity to witness the changing landscape up close. It’s also a great way to come together after a busy school and work week.
5. Oktoberfest
During Autumn there are many different celebrations that take place often referred to as Oktoberfest,Harvest Fair or Harvest Moon Celebration. Whatever name it goes by, join the party. The best way to find the celebration nearest you is to either do an online search, or to call your state tourism office for a published guide to the state’s annual festivals. These guides are usually free and many times are downloadable from state tourism websites.
